First and foremost, a HUGE thank you to all of you that were so helpful in getting me mentally and physically prepared for my move to Alaska. Your advice did not fall on deaf ears and I appreciated every last bit of it.

So . . . here I am living in the middle of the interior and so far I am LOVING it. I really think that I made the right choice on this one. The kidlet is thriving, has already made a few friends. I work with great people. Even the beagle is happy.

Things tend to happen at a bit slower pace here in winter, and that's a good thing. I think I was in town all of 72 hours before most of the town knew my name.

My son has the unique opportunity to actually live in a place where I don't feel the need to have my eyes on him 24/7. Everyone knows who he is and keeps an eye out for him. I get phone calls at work from neighbors saying "Hey Nikki, I just saw the kidlet playing with the dog on the hill. I invited him in for hot cocoa and cupcakes in case you were looking for him."

What, you mean I don't have to lo-jack my kid? Novel concept.

So far, I am not only content, but happy.

Next big hurdle to conquer . . . I'm in temporary housing now with my employer. So I need to find a permamnent place to live. If any of you know of a nice place to rent in the Healy area for a reasonable rate, I am definitely interested. There seems to be a lot for sale, but not much for rent right now.

Nikki

Good for you Nikki and kidlet! Post some notices up at your local grocery store, cafe's or where ever the locals congregate regarding rental needed. Also check with any RE offices (if any there) it sometimes happens that there are properties for sale that are empty and the owners would feel better having someone in them.

I had a similarly hard time with rentals here in Delta. Us and Healy are simply small towns so there's just not much for rent at any given time, and what is available is often not desireable (I'm in my 3rd place in 2 years, and finally where I want to be). If you have the option to stay where you're at for awhile, don't jump on the first barely acceptable rental that comes up - wait for something you actually want. You should have an advantage since you arrived in winter, but you'll probably want to be in a place before the summer seasonals start booking them up in April and May. My only advice for finding a rental is this: 1. MAKE FRIENDS. 2. Let them know you're looking for a place. Something will come up.

At least Delta has two websites with classifieds, does Healy? I'm not really sure.

Freezn's advice if very good. But try to spread the news about your need for a rental by word of mouth. Tell almost everyone you meet in Healy that you are looking for a good rental. It shouldn't take long before your news is all over town.

I have worked in Healy @ the Power Plant. Ron Jennings is still there; he might be listed in the phone book. Word of mouth is the best way to find what your looking for. The best advice I can give you; Is just relax and take it one day at a time. It will all work out (in time).

and if you see Ron - Tell him David Eves gives a big hello !!
