Well, that's cool! I actually was lucky enough to see the bore tide come in once when I was driving around Turnagain. I stopped to watch, it's amazing how fast it goes. Simply amazing.

does anyone know if it gets any bigger than that?...that's barely rideable. There's some unreal footage of a bore in Brazil - pretty sure it's the Amazon - overhead and people are riding shortboards...not super steep, but looks pretty fun...no offense to the folks that were having fun on the Alaskan one...

Yes it does, but at the beginning where you don't want to be at. The whole bay is very low to empty at low tide, and then when the high tide comes in it's like a miniature tsunami. If you are stuck in the soft sand when the tide comes in, you will drown unless a rescue team can get you unstuck from it. That's the reason why there are signs along the shore not to venture out there. And yes, a lot of people ignore that warnings and still walk to some areas into the bay, but some get stuck in the sand every now and then.

Bad waters to be playing in. Been a bunch over the years get in trouble out there. Mostly rescues are done by Helicopter or in this case a Floatplane....

An unknown floatplane pilot has rescued a kitesurfer spotted drifting in Turnagain Arm, Alaska, according to the Anchorage Fire Department.
Apparently, a kitesurfer was found in distress offshore from McHugh Creek, at 17h15, Monday.
As the kite was in the water, the troubled kitesurfer started waving to get attention.

It doesn't need to get any bigger. More than enough people are able to get into plenty of trouble every year with it just the way it is already.

thanks folks for the "heads up" to us all about the dangers as it is real out there. Of course I would never want to encourage anyone to "get in over their head". I was just curious if there were any real surfers in this forum that had seen or ridden it, breaking and rideable "head-high or overhead" with some shape and some steepness or if it's just a marginal SUP wave...which of course would still be a lot of fun...might even wet the line, have a tiddly, take a nap, wake up and SUP sum more...just curious is all.
