Family of three looking for a cheap cabin or home rental for the winter anywhere in alaska. We want to experience AK before making a decision to move. My husband has always wanted to live in AK. We currently live in NC. He is retired so a job is not necessary. Our daughter is 8. We do need running water but can live rustic. Thank you for your help.

Not a lot of "cheap" in Alaska.

Not a lot of cheap with running water. Maybe some dry cabins in the Fairbanks area.

Actually, a lot of us living up here are looking for cheap with running water too. Saurcasim aside, you might try locating a town or two of interest and post an ad in the local paper for housesitting. Lots of folks like to spend time down south in winter and need caretakers for their homes.

For $500 bucks a month you can get a dry cabin in the Mat-Su Valley.

Smile Wanted a rental cabin for Feb 1st to May 1st

Family looking for furnished cabin for Feb 1st to May 1st with some utilities included anywhere in Alaska. Cabin can be rustic. We would like for it to have school closeby if possible. We hope to pay no more than $800/month. Thank you for any help , we so want to come to AK for the winter.

There are a lot of "log cabin resort" type places in the small towns that mainly cater to tourists and seasonal employees in summer, and it's very likely you can find an owner who'd be ecstatic to have an occupied unit February - April, for a reasonable price. Conventional rentals are probably a bad idea, since most require a 6 month lease. I'd recommend just flipping through the Milepost, or any other lodging advertizements, and just calling the places up, rather than looking for rentals posted somewhere.
