It was -32 here in NW Wisconsin a couple days ago. Today it was -15 and it felt colder than at -32. Go figure...

Heck it's -6 here in northern PA right now. But it feels colder than that. Dang humidity. I think it's warmer in Sterling than here. I wanna come home.

Yepper, the cold in the midwest and eastern states feels much colder then up here. Like you said, the humidity makes all the difference.

People are being nice to you! ;-)

Nobody who's been here long thinks it's very cold yet. Wait 'til some day when it gets down to -55F, and then everyone will be telling each other how cold it is!

Almost anyway. A few years ago it got down to the record cold here of -59F, and almost everyone was talking about it really being cold. But there are several people around town who've lived in the Interior, and while that may be a little more rare these days than is was 2 or 3 decades ago, it still gets colder than -65F now and then south of the Brooks Range. Folks who have dealt with a week of -65F don't think -55F is "really" cold for a day or so. It's just well on the way to getting there!

Of course a trip to the South Pole in July would cure all those thoughts. I just can't even imagine -100F.

Is the Statement "It's a dry cold." analogous to the statement I used to hear in the desert "It's a dry heat."?

Bovine fecal material I say. Just like I told those desert rats . . . I don't care how "dry" if it is 115 degrees in the shade it is an oven. Just like I tell my co workers now -40 is damn cold, I don't care how dry it supposedly is.

Given all that, at least I can put on more clothes when it's cold. When it's super hot you can only take off so much clothing before they arrest you for indecent exposure.
