I live in northern Michigan and I want to go somewhere this summer to work. I'm 18 and want to go somewhere and make some money before college starts up again in august. I want to work from may-aug.

Are there a lot of jobs in AK where I could work at the oil drilling platforms, do fishing, working at a mine, etc...? I prefer to live in a rural area with long work days to save up money over the 3-4 months I want to be there. Of course, I'm originally from North Dakota and might head back there instead (below 4% unemployment and companies basically looking for anyone).

What you want to do would be extremely possible if you'd consider different types of work than what you've listed.

Check out the cruise ship companies. Fishing lodges, etc, looking for housekeepers, etc. Denali Park lodges or whatever they are called. Princess Lodges too.

Show up. bring a r/t ticket in case things don't work out.

I have a feeling though that it will....

you can always get a cash out for the ticket or give it to a friend.

Shoot for ND. Lot's of oilfield work there right now. I hear they are paying 14 bucks an hour starting pay at McDonalds!
Pretty much nothing for oilfield work in AK right now.

I think all jobs in Alaska are temporary right now. Course if oil goes up to $400 a barrel like I heard today then there might be a few more jobs for awhile.
