Grumpy, grumpy, haha... I think the most common answer would be "yes and no." Our physical isolation from the rest of the country is very apparent, and it reflects in the local culture everywhere except maybe Anchorage. I think most of us value the unique qualities of Alaska as compared to the rest of the US, and many of us moved here specifically for those reasons.

On the other hand, economically we are 100% part of the US and totally dependant on the national infrastructure since there's little if any manufacturing or food production up here. Also, I think only like 30-35% of our population was born here, almost all the rest grew up somewhere else in the US (the northwest, upper midwest, and Texas are all common places of origin).

So, short answer, yes we consider ourselves American. Our regional differences would probably be comparable to others within the country, Alabama vs. Oregon for example.

Impossible? It's pretty easy for Americans to become indefinite residenants of Canada and not much harder for them to become citizens.

Why is it impossible to get Canadian citizenship?

To me, Canada feels like you're in a foreign country when you get to a border crossing station. It feels like you're returning home when you cross back.

I c wut u did thar.

Nah just more like their state represents who they are than the feds do. I guess the exception is if you've been forced to move somewhere you don't want to be then identify with your home state instead of where you are.

I've driven through Canada 17 times, it's always great to reenter back into the States or Alaska. No place like home. They have the metric system, it sucks.
