I was thinking the same thing. However Anchorage apartments and condos are bigger in size.. I think it's not good investment because only use the place once or twice each year in Talkeetna. Fairbanks might be interested in checking into small place.

I don't understand... are you thinking of buying a place or selling a place? Are you asking us if we are having thoughts about doing such a thing? Or do you want advice?

If you are thinking of buying a place... DO IT!
Sure, there are tourists in the summer, and some in winter (the best), but man, if I could find work there....Wasilly, good bye!

Nice country, but a bit over-rated. Considering it's overrun in summer by tourists - and I mean completely infiltrated with no room to sneeze, pee or turn around - and then crowded in winter with snow sportsters, you'd do well to consider seriously what you're looking for in choosing Talkeetna. The infrastructure is maxed, ammenities are stretched (i.e., cell coverage is patchy, 2-lane spur road is rush-hour variety), and the locals are exasperated with the growth. Very seriously consider what it is you want before you invest in the scenery.

What about Trapper Creek? Population is 423, and from what I have read, the tourism is not as intense there as it is in Talkeetna. Strange, since the Parks Hwy goes straight through it, but I can't find much on tourism type things to do in Trapper Creek when I google it, but I find tons of stuff on Talkeetna. Might be due to the lack of aesthetics compared to Talkeetna, but who really cares? Seems to me that in AK, utility is key, not really pretty buildings.

Talkeetna is "hip," at least as much as rural Alaska can be hip. A couple quaint old-timey buildings, a reputation for attracting colorful goofballs, and of course the view of the Alaska Range that is common throught the middle Susitna Valley and everybody just seems to eat that place up. Like a previous poster said, nice but overrated. If you want the qualities that attracted people to Talkeetna in the first place, go to McCarthy. On the up side, there are a lot of cabins in the woods out around Talkeetna, well out of town, and that's an area where I'd consider living the semi-remote-but-on-the-road-system lifestyle.

Still, lowland places like that are frustrating to me because those big beautiful mountains are in your face, but it's tough to get into the high country from Talkeetna. Homer's the same deal, beautiful, and with fun, quirky people, but I'd be bored to death...

Thanks. I like most people as long as they come....and go. quiet a huge plus the rivers there and the confluence of them is stunning...i can see denali from most places that is not the draw for me at least.....warm breakfast with peeps who know me by sight and options are good for me and family who would visit hopefully. that is the beauty of a small town. Eagle River is to big for me and San Diego is silly big.
