Marty, that sounds... indescribably cold. I just can't process what that would actually feel like. And riding on the back of a Skidoo too, good lord. But then again, I'm sure that was one drop-dead GORGEOUS trip through the Brooks Range like that. I just picture a planetarium of stars in my head.

We stopped several times to check each other for frostbite. Nothing serious. But I remember one of the stops with the engine off and the complete silence, the light from the moon and stars and the absolutely dead calm. My friend commented that this must be what it feels like to be on the moon.

My brothers and I were in our front yard in Sterling and saw a bright orange object. It looked like the glimmer of sun reflecting off the side of an airliner. Only thing was...it was a very cloudy overcast day. I ran in and had my Mom come out and look at it. The 4 of us stood there and watched this thing basically hover to the right, then left, then down at a 45 degree angle, then left, then right, then down at a 45 degree angle. This went on until we could no longer see it behind the trees. It was what appeared to be over the powerline that runs across the peninsula.
About 10 years later I was working construction with an older gentleman. Somehow we got to talking about UFO's and I told him this same story. Turns out he saw the same thing but from the opposite direction. He had been working in the Swanson River Oilfield that day and described the exact motion of the object. Him and his crew stood and watched it for a few moments until it dropped behind the trees out of site.
It was not round like a saucer. It was a longer rectangular shape, made no noise, and was bright orange yellow like the sun. Yet it was extremely cloudy and was no reflection. I don't know what it was...but I do know what it wasn't.

Used to be alot of sightings across from Homer. Around Port Graham I think. If I remember correctly there was an article in one of the newspapers about folks driving to a lookout spot over there and seeing red UFO's on a regular basis.
