Funny thing about CC...I've taken several videos and photos of him. The last time I tried was just a few days ago when he was running from a bear (his natural state). But every time I have loaded those on the computer...CC was not there. There was just blank space where he should have been.

LOL I'll have to stay on the lookout for this CC character!

And Rance, I agree with you 100 percent about Gold Rush and Palin's Alaska...both shows were almost painful to watch. (I think Palin's show was slightly more painful.) I've never watched the taxidermy show and I hate Bear Grylls.

Probably not much chance of having a reality show here, and if we did, we wouldn't even have to stage the drama, but you can always keep up with us here on Facebook:

See I'm the other way around. I don't like the State Troopers that much (although I watch on occasion) for some reason - and I don't like the taxidermy or gold mining ones - but I loved Flying Wild Alaska. Probably because I'm a big airplane nerd. Bad title though, they could have picked something better than that!

I laugh when I think what people's perceptions of Louisiana must be because of the show Swamp People. They hardly represent LA. People who think these reality shows are reality are the stupid ones. And you can't fix stupid.

I think I'll enjoy this show. Yule Kilcher (Jewel's grandfather) was quite the character. He made the first crossing of the Harding Icefield. The hiking party exited the icefield near Seward at a glacier now called Exit Glacier.

Most of the people that fall under the Mountain Men class are true hermits for the most part and won't do well with a camera crew sticking stuff in their face and a director telling them how to act.

Better title would be "Camera Crew Search", where they go in and try to find the crew after they pissed off a real hermit...

Most of the guys on a show like that are going to be rural types that go out and back when the grub gets low, not much real "Mountain Man" in most of them, just like the lure and will look good on camera for ratings!

Would be happy to fly them out and drop them off to meet some of these guys though!

I recently watched a great documentary on VBS about Heimo Korth. I'd say he qualifies as an Alaskan mountain man...his wife Edna is pretty tough too...I'd watch a reality show about them.

I think they should do a reality show on the guy named George who drinks blackberry brandy while hiding behind the TC post office.

Heimo (along with a few other families) was in another documentary which was made a decade or so before the VBS one, called Braving Alaska, narrated by actor Martin Sheen. You can find the whole thing online, or just get the DVD if you are interesting in seeing more stuff on how he lives.

Additionally, a book was written about him by his cousin, called The Final Frontiersman. Not sure if you are aware of that, but it gives a pretty good sense of the arduous nature of his lifestyle. It sold pretty well, from what I understand... so it should be around for quite some time for future generations to enjoy reading.

I found the VBS documentary which focused just on Heimos family to be a little bit more instructive in giving a sense of what it might really be to like to live that kind of isolated lifestyle up in ANWR. It was a nice "reality check," but the Braving Alaska documentary was interesting too.
