Don't get me wrong it is the most beautiful place you'll ever see. Why you chose Alaska I don't know nor your budget that you are hoping to live by. Nothing is cheap there not even the fish! Nor eating out.
It is either flown or barged in to Alaska actually, not "trucked." Nothing is trucked to Alaska through Canada. Otherwise, your post is spot on.

The price of paradise does not come cheap.

Glitch - I thought Wal-Mart trucked stuff in through Canada? There was an article about how they bring fresh fruit/vegetables in... Obviously this wouldn't be possible in areas off the road system...

Not trying to attack you, just trying to make sure I understood something I read earlier.

BTW - A lot of stuff in stores today in the lower 48 is barged/flown in from another country... Usually from a Country that rhythms with a female body part.

Most all of Fred Meyer's produce is trucked up. If I remember right, 3 or 4 times a week.

???

I worked graveyards at a gas station all through college, near the border north of Bellingham, WA. I talked to lots of the Lynden and Carlile Alcan truckers on a regular basis. Lots of perishables are trucked up from a distribution center in Tacoma, WA (at least for the Carlile guys). Generally they work in tandem, driving 24 hours a day and making the trip in about 2 days if I remember right.

Your understanding is not correct. Nothing is delivered to Alaska via trucks. All perishable goods are flown to Alaska. Non-perishable goods are barged to Alaska.
