Assuming this is your first assignment in Alaska, go with Kodiak. After you're there and if you want another assignment in Alaska, you'll be able to ask others what the pros and cons of each duty station here.

If Sitka is an option, go there.

You will enjoy both places and the Guard is great either place you go, they both have city stuff, but not like the bigger cities would have, Kodiak has a much bigger base area wise, but Ketch has a lot there too.

Basically as long as you have an open mind, you will like both places....

I grew up on Kodiak - I'm a Coastie kid! I like it better than Ketchikan, but then again I haven't spent much time in Ketch. I think the poster above is correct regarding whether easy access to Anchorage is more important that easy access to Seattle. The way I feel about Anchorage, I'd choose easy access to Seattle. And I don't even like Seattle much.

Awesome thanx! Looks like there's three available positions for me to work in Kodiak. Definitely excited!

Kodiak is a nicer place, because it has cooler temperatures and less rain.

Ketchikan is very similar but a lot more rain and snow in the late fall and winter months, and average temperatures about 5F warmer than that of Kodiak.
