Well, I got a job offer in Bethel, AK!!!! It has been a while since I have lived in Alaska, and I am really excited. My hubby and daughters will stay here in Georgia until he is done with school. So it will be just me.

Any advice would be great!

very open minded....so no problem there. i do know what bethel looks like. i understand the conditions. my dad was military for 20 years so i have lived almost everywhere. (even in a 3rd world country). alaska has always been my home in my heart after i have left there, i miss it terribly.

just trying to remember what to pack for the winters there. i know a down jacket, thermal socks, long sleeves shirts and pants, i think undershirts. what kind of shoes are best there during the winter? i was looking at the shoes on eddie bauer that have amazing traction, but was also looking at the ones on llbean.com too.

Where will you be working at?

It's been raining off and on the past few days with sunny breaks. More rain for the next few days, it's on the warm side though.

Default Hi

I'm being considered for a job in Bethel as a social worker, and I am very excited and hope so much that I get the position! How are you liking it so far? Is it difficult to find a nice place to live? If I'm hired, I'm bringing my two dogs, so I'd love to be able to get a small house with a yard. Is that realistic ? Hope all is going well for you!

@age0888... you should do a site visit. "yards" in Bethel are not what you might be thinking. Many houses have none, and those that do, they still aren't probably what you're picturing. There are a lot of loose dogs in town, so keep that in mind when looking for a rental place.
