We just purchased a new Ivory tusk today; The biggest we have seen in a very long time. 4.88 pounds !
It is bigger than my arm !! Photos coming shortly !! We paid $65 per pound there abouts for this = $360
If this were purchased at Alaska Fur Exchange (Only sold to natives- white raw ivory) this same tusk would go for $270 per pound X 4.88 pounds = well over $1,000 bucks.
That SHOULD BE a crime to charge that much !! Outrageous difference in prices all because of GREED !!
Typical of those 'type' people !!

This is the one tool that is indespensible; a 12" rotary sander. The cost is $300 dollars but it pays for itself in no time. The 12" sanding discs are very inexpensive $2.00 (each) there abouts. The adhesive on the back of the round sandpaper allow intimate contact with the main wheel. It is easily removed when it is time to replace a worn out disc. You can see the exhaust hose on the right side that removes the dust away from the work area.
We have purchased an owned 6 of these fine tools. 3 in Point Hope - 3 in Barrow. We have only one unit here in our very small temporary shop in Anchorage. These weight over 80 pounds - they are quite solid and heavy but nothing can do the job quicker and easier than this fine tool.
Shaping pieces - is the main part of every thing you make. Removing the excess ivory!

Yes & No ! (read the first paragraph). It depends on which type.
I'm not sure what you mean by ULA's.
These now need all sharp edges rounded off and polished to finish the final bracelet(s).
These simple steps can be finished in any order - before the bracelet has been strung up - OR - after it is all tied and ready for the final steps.
