I just touched down at 4pm this afternoon. What a beautiful place.

It's just sad that my mom can't be with me to enjoy this. Due to unforseen circumstances, she had to return to Singapore.

The people here are friendly and relaxed. But there is still lots to do...

- Set up a bank account.
- Get a prepaid cell phone sim card.
- Head down to Ketchikan Shipyard.
- Find a one room apartment for rent.

I'm currently staying in a budget hotel... Feeling confused and alone.

Any advice? Will the bank allow me to set up a savings account when I don't have a residential address?

I don't see why you'd need an address. Get out and look around tomorrow. See some sights and meet some folks. Might help with the confusion/aloneness thing.

Welcome to Alaska!

Go to the Post Office and get a Box there so you have an address. If they need a physical address, give them the hotel's address (not the name).

On the internet, go to www.Alaskaslist.com and see if there are any places to rent you might like.

Good luck.

Look through Sitnews for rentals. Head over to the Remax Real Estate and ask them what they have.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the advice!

Went to First bank to apply for a Savings account and the lady knew the address I wrote down was the Hotel's address. She advised me against it as they'll send me a mail after I open my account and they do not want to risk identity theft.

Will head down later to some rental apartments to check them out.

Prepaid cellphones are surprisingly affordable here.

I called Alaska Ship & Dry dock to ask if I could arrange for a job interview and she told me:"This is a company and I do not have time for an interview."

Would it be better if I just head down to their office to talk to them?
