Wow, what a great thread. Even Anchorage's traffic jams are set against a stunning mountain backdrop.

Default Since nobody has posted photos for a couple of days...

Yesterday afternoon while driving back home from Glennallen on the Richardson Highway, there was a what I believe wildfire, by the road near Salcha. When I got to that point, I could not see the fire, just a lot of smoke, and the traffic stopped on the road. While waiting for the traffic to move I took a few photos as follows:

That airplane was moving fast and close to the trees near the road:

Too close for the 400mm prime I was using

Rance,

I noticed that nobody has been posting photos for a couple of weeks, so I posted some. Maybe everyone is having a busy summer with no time for photos.

By the way, I took around 200 photos of moose this weekend, and decided to post this one in here, but I normally post my photos at the photography forum and let other Alaskans post here. The only reason why I have posted a few pictures recently is because nobody has posted any for a couple of weeks. To all of you, please posting your photos since a variety of photos are more interesting than just my photos.

I was amazed that this very young calf, which should be less than a week old, was already munching tender leaves and weeds. Some of my photos show the little thing eating leaves:

Yeah, I saw a similarly little Dall sheep lamb a couple weeks ago trying out foliage. But I'm not sure how much solid food he was actually eating - after he nibbled a little, he went to nurse.

The little things are quite cute. There was another young calf hiding in the brush nearby. It took a look at me and hid away (I didn't think I was that ugly). The one in the photo just hung around the mother, and whenever I moved around it would stare at me. The cow looked at me a couple of times, but she didn't seem to be concerned. I would move slowly to avoid startling her, and that was that. When she got closer as she browsed, I just moved away and closer to my truck (I always keep a distance from calving moose). I saw the little calf nibbling some tender grass and leaves. It really surprised me.

It's been a busy summer thus far for me, but I have been getting out to the cabin and flying a drone. Looking for a simple easy to use video editing program now. I'm still taking pictures, just haven't had much time to get them on here. Next day or two...
