With the help of a great CD member (Captain Crunch), I got a Nikon D70s body today. $289.99!

And now......., the wait. (insert Jeopardy music here)

That's the point of interest indeed!

That is not a painted on tattoo, it's real. It is the traditional style for a Barrow Inupiaq. I don't know of another Inupiaq (or Yupik) woman with a traditional style chin tattoo. (I've seen a few paint them on for special occasions, but none that have had one tattooed.)

The last two women in Alaska who had them done in the old way were two sisters, who lived into their 90's at Savoonga on St. Lawrence Island back in the late 1980's. I met one of them, but didn't have a camera. I've regretted not being able to photograph her every since. I first met Dorothy a few years ago, and don't know her really well. So I've waited until it was a very opportune time to talk about photographing her.
