Well, I wanted to see if there were any caribou out at the end of Gaswell Road, which goes about 10-12 miles southeast of Barrow, but the road was snowed in and unpassable.

So I took pictures of the snow drifts instead. These were shot with a Nikon D2x at ISO 800 (which makes for a lot of noise that can be made to look like film grain by using a little Unsharp Mask on it). The lens was a 400mm f/2.8 + 2x TC stopped down to f/11.

The first one is BW, the second one has contrast and saturation boosted to emphasize the late evening sunlight.

I like that second one Floyd! Almost looks like a sand dune.

Aksnowdust...did you get any fish? They are still killing the lakers in Hidden Lake through holes in the ice!
I'm hoping to get across Skilak in the next day or two. To get some metal roofing to my cabin. Snowed all morning here in Sterling...so I'm hoping there is a little on the lake to lube the snowmachine track.

We had a gathering of some of the fine folks of Sterling yesterday

My Dad cookin up some killer babyback ribs for Easter dinner

Thats Froggy! One of the brothers. Very cool, and Chugach Electric retired dude. Owns the local wedding site, located on the Kenai River. His wife owns a bridal/dress shop (which is in a log cabin), and is running for the local HEA board membership. About the greatest folks you could hope to meet.
Now the other half of Sterling is whining because they couldn't make the photo op. Will probably have to do it again sometime this week.
