Can someone familiar with Homer tell me if you can see the northern lights in the Homer area as well as you can further north in Alaska? Thanks.

I have seen them in Homer and in SE, but best viewing is from Denali on north.

The best northern lights display I ever saw was about ten years ago while visiting North Idaho. The best bet you have for seeing them is to be where there isn't much cloud cover... I think we probably get a lot of it here, but just don't see it because it's always so overcast.

The best display I've seen was in Kotzebue. They were right above us and sorta looked like southern lights, had to look south at some of them. The second best display was actually here in Bethel, the whole sky was a dark red, looked like blood dancing in the sky.

We've had some outstanding shows here, but when they are not active, as they have not been active this year, you rarely see them.
