That map is incorrect. The body of water in that map is called Hot Springs slough (it goes through town). It empties into the Tanana shortly thereafter. Manley is north of the Tanana.

At least Google Maps didn't take you across the runway of the airport like the Apple map app did in Fairbanks!

Tim, when you take your snowmachine to the lake, do you drive to Manley and go in that way or do you access the trail from the east (I take it you live in the Fairbanks area?). Just wondering about winter trail access and the conditions you've seen. I saw your picture of your snowmachine stuck in some overflow (been there!).
I have a lot that borders the sled trail on the north side. I've read other posts about vandalism of cabins etc. but those people don't sound like they've ever actually been there. Have you seen or experienced any of those kinds of problems?
Thanks for any insight you can provide.
Cam

I go in from Nenana, there are 3 possible routes. The Telegraph / real serum run trail, the Commissioners line trail or the River. I have Done the Manley run but the drive on the road makes it NOT worth it to me unless, I was trying to haul in a large amount of material. There has not been any Vandalism. Someone did take some meat bags from my shed once they left a 20 dollar bill which did not come close to covering the cost.

Thanks for your reply. I haven't been up that way in over 10 years so that information is very helpful. I guess if I ever get serious about building I will try to bring in my materials via Manley, judging from your response.
How long approximately does it take you from Nenana? Do you just pick the route based on your own judgement or is there some way you can find out which one may be the best at that particular time?
One other question, if you don't mind! What would you say the chances are of encountering anyone else out there when you do get to the lake? I would guess zero to none, but just wondering if it's changed any over the years.
Thanks a lot!

The trails he mentioned are pretty well traveled, you more than likely will encounter people on each trip on weekends, but not as much on the week days, but there are mushers that run the trails for training their dogs as well for racing.

Anytime you make a new trail off an existing one, such as to you cabin site, you may find others will run on it to see where it goes. Out on the Minto Flats area, there is a lot of cabins that have had damage done to them over the years.

The distance for travel, is about twenty miles from Manley and a bit more from Nenana. Nenana is a lot closer to Fairbanks for getting supplies to the river if you use a boat, or the trails for hauling supplies by snowmachine.

You can also haul in a complete log cabin kit (24x20 with loft) for about six grand by helicopter from Nenana, a bit cheaper if done by float plane with more trips. There are a few companies that will use a Nodwell and haul freight out that way as well, but I don't know the costs for that nowadays.

I have the ability to fly out and check the trails. I have been using the North trail since the fire of 09 burned the trail I use on the South side of the River. I spent 3 years cutting through the burn area to open up the trail but I'm about the only one that uses that route. Yep lots of people there are about 17 cabins at Deadman now, chances are someone will be there. I'm going out there today will be back on Tue. The Tails within 25 miles from Nenana get regular use and stay in good shape. passed Old Minto the Trial gets not so good for 15 miles. Lots of variables every time you go. Got a call from a guy in north Dakota the other day that says he bought a lot and is going to build.
