It looks like I might have the luxury of choosing between two jobs -- one in Homer and one in Seward. I need to evaluate the specific pros/cons of each job, but in the meantime, anyone care to help me look at pros/cons of the two towns?

Homer -
art culture
beautiful
longer drive to Anchorage (if I ever need/want to go)
more housing options
less severe winters (?)

Seward -
also beautiful
closer to Anchorage
lots of bike paths
less housing options (?)
more sunny days (?)

Please correct me if I'm off on anything I've listed so far.

Any other input is very much appreciated!

I don't think that Seward has more sunny days- they have about 60 inches of rain versus 20-25 for Homer (Homer is kind of in the rainshadow there). Homer is also very bike friendly, but more spread out (if you live on the hill, you might not want to bike to and from town).

Both towns are great for a lot of reasons, but I would choose Homer for the following:
-less rain
-less claustrophobic (Seward feels very closed in, but that might be the appeal for some)
-better soil (if you like gardening)
-better beaches
-more places to fish
-more places to drive to (locally)
-less windy
-more things to do

and probably a whole bunch more.

hands down if you have a good job it is homer. I have lived here for 25 years but. If you want to get to other places Homer is at the end of the road. More driving and the water is a little more sensative to day breezes and the tide is much larger.
This year it is a little depressing today is rain fog temp of 48 and we put a fire in the wood stove.
If you pick Homer send me a message I will show you around town if not it is about an hour or two to see all the roads in homer. Ha Ha.

Homer over Seward, hands down. Seward is a **very** small town, housing options seem very limited, and food options in town are all pretty awful. Seward also gets more rain is cloudier than Homer.

Have you been in each town? For me, a visit to each place would be a huge part of my decision making process.

After visiting both places, I would choose Seward. Closer to Anchorage. Much more hiking available. Seems like there is much more to do than in Homer.

I agree with the majority. If it was my decision, then I would choose Homer in a heartbeat. I found it to be a very friendly and welcoming town with a definite crunchy/hippie vibe.

Thanks for your input, everybody!

Yes, I have been to both towns, but it was about 4 years ago, so my memory is a little fuzzy. Your input has been very helpful! Thank you! I hope to have very good news to share soon.
