I've lived here in the Anchorage/Matsu area for the last 10+ years and I have never seen it this hot. I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has seen it hotter and when.

As a sidebar, please give your opinion as to whether you think this current heatwave is a result of or influenced by climate change or is it just a naturally occuring fluke?

Thanks to those who reply.

Its Alaska's way of getting back at me for leaving the state, after 3 crappy summers it waits until I leave and then comes up with this ....

It has been as hot or hotter, but these kinds of summers are rare. About as rare as thunderstorms in south central Alaska. The record high for Anchorage in June is 85°F. The record high for Anchorage in July was 86°F set in 1993. Thus far we have not broken any records.

All climate change is naturally occurring. Over the past century there have been certain trends in the climate every 30 to 40 years. From 1915 to 1945 we experienced global warming. From 1945 to 1980 we experienced global cooling. From 1980 to 2010 we experienced global warming. Since 2010 it appears we have been moving into another global cooling phase, despite our current warm summer.

I have seen it this hot. I've been here about 44 or 45 years. But this 3 weeks is probably the longest run of sun and heat I can remember.

We had thunder in Sterling a week ago. Just a rain cloud passing by that never dropped any rain on me.

I would love to see a day or two of good hard rain. Then some more sun. My garden is kicking butt right now...but it is really getting old having to water it every day.

Any major floods from the past snowfalls? Or some villages are used to the high water level?

Please send me the heat! I live in Virginia beach, and it's way too cold for this time of year. They are calling for highs in the 70s later this week! It's been to cold for me to enjoy my pool so far this summer, and typically I would have been swimming for about a month. The same thing happened last year too. It was never really hot here like it should be, and the winters have been much colder and longer.

I do not think you understand. What Alaskans are calling "hot" are temperatures in the 70s.

I got it you guys are what 10 - 15 degrees to hot, and I'm 10 - 15 too cold. Just send me your heat

FYI I've been shocked watching the Barrow sea cam to year. I was shocked to see the melting in MAY!!! I have never seen it happen like that that early, and I've been stalking that camera for years.

No, temperatures in the 70s would be normal. We're talking about temperatures that have been routinely (at least for the past week) in the 80s and even getting into the 90s and whether you agree or not, that's HOT.

Yeah, the sun is hotter. When it is cooler, it isn't as much...

It's all about the furnace settings instead of Al Gore's wallet.
