Dry cabins and semi-dry cabins where you have to use "honeybuckets", what exactly do most people use? What are these "honeybuckets"? Are they portable toilets from Cabelas? Are they buckets with a plastic bag with a toilet seat placed on them? Pics would be nice of different variations of honeybuckets (of course EMPTY honeybuckets ha ha!). This is a serious but kinda stupid lower48er question and i am sure it will bring some funny responses and thats ok cuz i need a good laugh anyway, so yall bring it on!

Most dry cabins I've seen have outhouses. Honeybuckets can be about anything. Back in the 80's in Barrow some of them were nothing more then 5 gallon buckets. Kinda leaves a ring on your bum when you sit down on one.

I may be prissy but no honey bucket, outhouse etc for me. Nope. I have a non-electric composting toilet. IN THE CABIN!! Lehman's sells them and they are nice. No smell. Best if you use either single ply tp or I use RV tp, little more $ but well worth it since it breaks down fast. Oh yeah and a nice comfy seat.

Last cabin we used a luggable loo. It was easy and really much less smelly then I originally thought it would be. Of course, empty regularly. Mostly for the kids. When we get moved into this new cabin, I think I'll spring for an actual porta potty such as ones that have a water tank and separate to empty, with a spout. We really only use it in the winter when the temps get pretty low.

I have a really comfy toilet seat made just for 5-gal. buckets (sorry, don't know where I got it). With a lid placed on top, out of sight, out of mind, easy to dump and keep clean. I think with kids you'd find a porta-potty a pain in the tush to keep clean and empty, I used to have one & got rid of it.

Now, however, I love my outhouse. I ran a wire out there so I can turn the heatlamp on first thing on winter mornings; it's warm & toasty when I get there with the radio on for morning news. I have hot & cold running water in the cabin from a raincatch but still would never have a loo inside.

Outhouse was all I knew at our cabin when I was growing up! I remember many trips in the middle of the knight at 40 below. We used wool socks to keep our butt cheeks warm while taking care of business. We graduated to 1" styrofoam sheet with a hole cut in it for the seat. As I got older and wiser,I built my cabins with a closet bathroom and used a portapot. It made those middle of the night trips on cold winter nights much more enjoyable!
