This isn't the first time someone offered a spot to hang out on a crab boat:

While it's not something I would like to do, I imagine with the popularity of the Deadliest Catch, there are folks that are willing to bid for this. It's a fundraiser for a non-profit, The Kodiak Arts Council. Here is their press release:

Yup - and it only serves to prove a DUMB AZZ is born every minute... LOL

Smart - because some DA will pay it.

I think what bothers me is that -- this is the best analogy I can come up with, but the whole thing reminds me of the difference between seeing a wild bear (from a safe distance) in it's natural state and watching a dancing bear in a circus.

It's just weird that something as quintessentially Alaskan as crab fishing is turning into the Love Boat.

In Nevada certain things are legal because there is a demand for the attraction. Across the United States there are a number of States that have made different forms of gambling legal for revenue enhancement purposes rather than raise taxes on their citizens. As far as females in Wasilla go that is a type of attraction that goes untaxed. If Alaska needs to attract the type who pay one million dollars for a ride into space then selling space on a boat is as natural as you can get. Several States, in the last election cycle, voted to make MaryJo legal in small quantities as long as the State tax is paid. This seems to be the only way Republicans are willing to raise taxes on those who vote them into office and pay them fabulous sums to run for office. I recall a number of states pay movie makers large amounts to shoot in their State. I would also include snow as an attraction except there is usually enough of that in the lower States to allow people to sample that without traveling as far North as Alaska. The main attraction Alaska can't cope with is diving in warm shallow water and white sand beaches which are still the largest attractions across the Southern States. I just watched the Gold Rush show and they told of the crew that came for England to film the Chechakos who are dirtying the streams and polluting the air in Alaska while tilling the soil to find gold. The question is when do they restore the land to its original condition? The news and gold dredging just came on so I switched channels before I found out if they hired any Alaskans to film that show.
