My work doesn't allow for me to be a full-time Alaskan.. unfortunately. But having spent some time recently in several areas of the state, I can safely say I'd love to live in Bettles - crazy as that might sound - I know it's remote, and cold in the winter. And a population of 12 according to the 2010 census.

Hyder, that's where you should try. I noticed a few places for sale when I was there. I'd kinda like to have a summer place there.

I lived in Bettles more than 30 years ago. I liked it. Mighty cold in the winter though. Talked to some folks from there this summer and some of the same people are still there.

Like Starlite says, you really need to go there. There is very little private property in Bettles, but there is some. The best way to find out about it would be to take a trip there. Book a week at the lodge and talk to everyone in town. Many of the sales are done neighbor to neighbor.
