Watch Criminal Minds "No Way Out". Perhaps you have a crafty serial killer on your hands? Not for nothing, real life prolific serial killer Ted Bundy escaped capture in part because he inserted himself into search parties and volunteered at the call center for missing persons. Sadly, he was able to kill over thirty women, mostly in the Seattle area, over a period of several decades. Hopefully, though, the missing persons in Nome are still alive and well, or at least had mercifully quick deaths. My thoughts go out to the families.

Or the case of Dr. Kenneth Hunter who was convicted of murder in Egegik even though no bodies or remains were ever located? Lots of people go missing in Alaska every year and are never seen again.
Granted, a lot of the cases were in the past 20-30 years. I know that's not many, but the town keeps popping up as you look through the cases. I know Nome must be a pretty rough town to live in, but the same could be said for the whole of Alaska. It's just strange to me that Nome would be overrepresented apparently and that all of the people missing would be of a particular ethnicity.

I think it just might be that a "particular ethnicity" is well represented in Nome.

It could be said, but it wouldn't necessarily be true.

Nome is the largest hub city in that area of Alaska. It draws natives from all over that part of the State. If you'd ever been to Nome you would understand the dynamic going on there.

A lot of it has to do with the increase in Alcohol use in the winter among the people in Alaska. Alcohol abuse is a real problem along with increased drug use, due to the lack of things to do and sunlight and such - and with such cold temperatures, many people end up wandering off when drunk in the cold and freeze to death. Sometimes never to be found.

I watched an episode of the Alaska State Troopers and they found this native American Eskimo woman wandering the tundra outside some village with only a sweater and light jacket on. Her shoes were soaked and the temp was like forty below with the windchill. - she had been out for about two hours and her feet were frozen solid almost. It was pretty shocking. The cops said that she was lucky she wasn't found dead.

Not only a different town, a different state entirely. Northern Exposure was filmed in Roslyn, Washington. I have taken photos of that very mural, I can drive to it within 2 hours from Seattle.
