It takes votes to get elected and unless Alaska has the worst election process in the Nation that fact precludes anyone from inheriting such a position. A few people have been appointed by some official but to be reelected they must have an adequate number of votes to be reelected. And there is nothing you can prove that would say any particular politician is in whatever list is maintained by whatever interest group you care to nominate for the honor. That is governed by opinion. And we all know what is an opinion.

And that any grouping of third party voters can do anything to win elections is almost a lonesome opinion. The founding fathers couldn't have imagined that the political process would degenerate into what we have today because the parties have switched sides and positions too many times to be more than shadows of what they started out as. The parties we have today cater to whatever the present crop of opinions needs to be fed. The evolution of the Republican party has changed the platform that is supported into almost the opposite of what it was just fifty years ago. That bad politicians are elected and reelected is a fact that democracy hasn't been able to completely eliminate. Greed is the mothers milk of politics and as long as that is true we will have bad politics. How would you wish we could select those who we can vote for? It may not be the choice of all but it is still the best that greedy people have yet invented.
Can't disagree with you about most of that, except for Lisa being handed down the job to her at the beginning, which is the truth. What happens after a politician lands a seat like that is that the party, Republican in this case, offers full support only to that politician. Both the Republicans and Democrats have tremendous political and monetary powers; once their favorite politician holds the seat, they just plow over any "rare" candidate for the same seat. In the case of Miller, he pretty much got support from independents, libertarians, and some Republicans who are tired of voting for the lesser of two evils. Lisa got a big spanking from Miller on the primaries, but the Republican machine destroyed Miller days before the elections.

In my view, something similar to what is happening to the UK in relation to the latest politics could happen in the US at a national level, if not at State level, because people are getting tired of the inaction of the two political parties relating to not looking out for the future of the US as an economic power:

LONDON — Voters in Britain sent a forceful message of discontent to established political parties on Friday, as returns from local elections showed an even stronger following than expected for the anti-European Union, anti-immigration United Kingdom Independence Party.

The results had an immediate impact across the political spectrum, hurting the Labour Party as well as the partners in the governing coalition, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats. The outcome is likely to increase the pressure on Prime Minister David Cameron to take an even harder line on reducing the powers of the European Union.
While we don't have an EU, both our political parties are for amnesty to illegal immigrants, and are united relating to spending day in and day out. In the UK, there is a nationalistic surge for work-creation to benefit UK citizens and workers, first, and immigrants a far second. This is happening perhaps because of the high rate of unemployment.

A study by researchers Cheol Liu from the City University of Hong Kong and Indiana University's John L. Mikesell found Alaska to be the 7th most corrupt of the 50 States. So it is at least different from the 43 other States who are less corrupt. I suppose the good news is that Alaska does not have Mississippi's government, but that is not saying much.

P.S. I would not put it past the State of Alaska to bribe the author of the article to list Alaska lower than it actually deserves.

Interesting article! I do see one flaw in their methodology, though:

"The study sized up the effect of public corruption—measured by convictions"

Maybe officials in the states currently at the top of the list just aren't as good at covering up their crimes

I wondered about the methodology too. I was born in Illinois; and three of their last five governors have ended up in jail.

Looks like RayinAK didn't care for the "15 words or less" part.

Hopefully the OP will forgive my mistake

But then he may realize that I was responding to others who also used more than 15 words.

clearly you are new here or young because Alaska's constitution was written by Liberals. Democrats ran the state until the pipeline and it's been downhill ever since.

Some may have been liberal (I don't really know), but some were very conservative. For example Coghill wasn't a liberal. Anyway, back then even Democrats were conservative and patriotic compared to the Democrats of today.
