Hey folks! I made it up to Anchorage safe and sound!

I'm finding that Anchorage is just fine....I love my job, I've made a bunch of friends, and I'm fitting right in. Any negative things that people have said....every place has positives and negatives....things are fine

Just miss my familia terribly! But they'll be here soon enough

(I can't get enough lox and cream cheese, that's for sure!!!)

Wellcome to Alaska. You sure picked the time of year to show up. The coldest temps so far this year and tomorrow is the shortest day.

But from now on, things just keep getting brighter.

If I said I am envious, it would be an understatement. Way to go!!! you are now in one third of the land mass of the U.S. (more or less) were you not adventurous, you wouldn't be there, you should fit right in. Take consolation in the fact that there is enought of Alaska to keep you exploring for an awfully long time----Did I mention I am jealous??? You Go Girl!!! ENJOY!!

congrats. Anchorage is a wonderful placed. Moved away a few years ago and miss my friends and family dearly. It's bone chilling up there now. Yikes!!! Enjoy the land of the midnight sun.

So have you gotten out of town yet? Seen any of the scenery? Coming from MN I think you'll do just fine with the climate. Might even like ours/Alaskas better. Congrats on the move and the job.

Well, I'll tell ya Rance, it's been damn cold lately!!!!

I haven't been able to do much lately as I've been working a TON! I'm hoping to get out and about this weekend, but even still, it's not looking promising. Best I've been able to do is see the Alaskan wilderness...as in downtown Anchorage wilderness! I will be getting out to Talkeetna soon enough to visit my cousin...
...And no worries...no one has been giving me any troubles

Default all downhill from there

Not too bad timing-wise, the winter solstice is just a few days away. It's all downhill from there, so to speak (at least until next year).

The nice thing about Anchorage is that a wide variety of nice weekend side-trips are just a short drive away. Right off the bat I'd recommend seeing Girdwood (try the peppered steak at the Double Muskie restaurant if you can get in).

With all that nice chilly weather you've been having up there I'm sure that the ice on Westchester Lagoon is good and thick, the city is pretty good about keeping it plowed and occasionally hot-mopped for good skating. There's nothing like ice skating outdoors on a clear day, bring along a thermos of hot cocoa and some marshmallows to toast in case someones got a fire going (there usually is on weekends). It's so much nicer than skating indoors, and the price is certainly right!
