alaska is quite diverse depending where you go. it mostly depends on what are you looking for in an area...so was there something you had in mind or just a general question?

Depending on your point of view, any place in Alaska is perfect. Or no place is perfect.

It is what you make of it. Alaska is extremely diverse. You can find rainforests, arctic tundra, interior forests, and all kinds of other things. You should get a bunch of Alaska Geographic books and read through them.

Well I feel that Anchorage is the best place (south side), it's not a huge city but has everything you need in it. You can travel north or south and get out of town rapidly. I've lived in the bush before but that is not the life style for me, I've lived in a very small town of Seward and that is not the life style either. I was raised in Los Angeles and Anchorage is a perfect fit for my life style, been here for 34 years and still love.

Sterling of course. Borders the moose range, lot's of critters, 10 miles from town so close enough shopping, Can jump on the moose river winter or summer and be in the middle of no where quick, can jump on the kenai river and fish to your hearts desire or run a boat up river to Skilak Lake which is surrounded by federal wildlife refuge, lot's of critters and quiet plus the scenery is awesome. Miles of trails to walk or mountain bike or snowmachine up into the mountains. I can go on for hours.

Click on my name. Through that you can get to my photo site. Open them there thumbnails to see the galleries of Skilak Lake and many others from the peninsula. Some days...words can't even describe it.

I can't believe there is even a discussion. Juneau is the best place to live in Alaska, because I am there!
There are other reasons, of course. How about it's the most beautiful place in the world? Jagged mountains, glaciers, the ocean, wetlands, all manner of wild things, all within city limits. We have a wonderful cultural heritage, plenty of things to do, (all sorts of theatre stuff, sports games, festivals, on and on) a wide variety of good restaurants, hiking trails galore from simple walks to backpacking trips up nearly impassably steep rock faces... Even a mild climate! We're even off the road system, which generally keeps the weenies out. (except during the cruise ship season, and even then they usually don't make it far in their glaring white sneakers)

Ahh...
You can check out pictures from me too! Click on my name and "visit my homepage" to be redirected to my flickr account.
