Just search for Delta Junction in this forum. A lot has been posted about this area, including the fact that delta Junction mostly is a few businesses (gas stations, a very small supermarket, maybe a bank or two, a visitors center, NAPA, a couple of restaurants...by a highway. There should be a few apartments to rent, and it will be expensive. It can be quite windy and dusty at Delta Junction, but it can also be quite pretty just outside of town. gasoline should cost nearly $4.00 per gallon (regular unleaded), and the temperature can get as cold as -65 and as warm as +85 during the summer. The nearest place to go shopping would be Fairbanks, from 1-1/2 to 2 hours drive one way.

I would say...

Don't accept it stockstam!

Unless you have a very good wage/income you best stay the hell away from the north. It costs megga bucks to live/rent.

I know from experience and am willing to explain it if you want to message me.

Don't shoot down someone's dream, especially with you living in Canada. That is a bad post. Have you lived in Delta?

It's not a bad place to most of us in Alaska, specially those of us who sometimes get tired of all the people in town. Delta Junction is sort of in the middle of nowhere as the closest shopping center is in Fairbanks. This makes for quiet living, while one can drive off Delta Junction South on the Richardson and arrive to a beautiful landscape 20 minutes later. Moose hunting is good in that area, and those who like the outdoors and the cold should not have any trouble, but everything is expensive, perhaps because of its distance from major stores.

When windy, something that happens quite often, gusts can be fierce, and the wind usually picks a very fine sand (probably volcanic) from the Delta River right through Delta Junction. The winds do keep Delta Junction cool during the summer, and sometimes it blows toward Delta River keeping the dust away from town. I would not mind living a "retired life" in that area, but outside of town down the Richardson (a little farther away from the missiles).

Don't do it! My advise from up north. YOu better have a great nest egg.

Start adding gas, fresh vegs, milk, etc. Your grocery bill will add up to be enormous. Plus, if you think you will rent, be prepared to pay something higher than you think, wherever you come from in the lower 48. For instance: you pay 800 dollars for a very nice place in the lower 48, you will pay double or quaduaple that in Alaska
