In the winter around this time villages ask to get fuel delivered from Bethel so they can resupply for the spring. They pay companies in Bethel to plow a road to the village who ordered the fuel. Here are a few shots in front of town.

Is there a danger of the resupply trucks breaking through the ice?

There was no snow for a long time and we had a cold winter, the ice is nice and thick. They usually have someone check the thickness up along the road and follow the thicker ice.

Do the villages pay for their supplies up front or a little of the total every month?

They pay up front, usually. They also get loans to pay for the fuel. This raises a already high price of gas/stove oil in the villages. The gas here in Bethel is now a $4.79 a gallon. The price in the villages is normally double that.
