Darn it... I about fell off my chair when I read that.

If it has a brothel with Pizza and Beer you know Pitts would be a regular. Speaking of which? Where the heck is he?

Popular opinion is that he pulled up stakes for Texas or the Dakotas.

Doesn't make sense that he would just drop off the C-D site though?

I have heard that the Dakota's are not the place to be either with dropping oil prices... Texas... Maybe... And even then the couple of people I know that work in the oil business in the Gulf of Mexico region are not getting good vibes either. One is OK as he is the person in charge of a refinery and the other isn't doing as well, having had to jump drilling rig companies as the one he used to work for had no choice but to let him go.

All the guys I know who work in the gulf have been laid off and a couple of them went to the Dakotas... I don't think things are much better up there. Of course, pitts doesn't actually work. He's just an engineer, so who knows.

I will play the devils advocate and say investing in property in the North Pole could be very risky. With the continuing downturn in the oil industry there could be a glut of available housing in the area. Also every time there is talk about base closures Eielson gets a lot of attention from the vast majority of the politicians. With Uncle Teddy long gone there is no one in Alaska with the power to fend off the 98 senators that do not represent Alaska. And we all know the government investing 500 million dollars in something is no guarantee they won't walk away from it a few years later.

Heck, the State of Alaska seems to be able to spend millions in studies only to not go through with the project...

And we don't have the trillions of dollars in our budget like the feds do.

---

If I was a rookie in the oil industry, I'd be looking hard for another industry as a fallback... Of course I'd take whatever oil job I could find. Even if I had an idea that moving to the Dakotas could be short term if there is now turn around quick enough. At one point, oil will go back up - it has to. low prices and the supply glut won't last forever. However, it doesn't mean that countries, states, companies, and individuals in the oil business, are not going to feel a lot of pain in the meantime. I don't have even a guess on a timeline for the recovery. One cog in the recovery wheel is that I also have read some economists reports that see signs that a global economic crash is coming which would work to further lessen energy demands and delay that price recovery. just my .02 which could very well be wrong.

Well after browsing Craigslist prices, I don't think I'll be able to pull this off anyway. Maybe Pitts was right and well see 6 figure housing prices drop. Oh well, the search continues....
