Default Images from 2010

I guess this thread is just as good as making a new one for images from this year's Piuraagiaqta. Particularly because, like last year, I don't think I'm going to do a lot. I skipped the parade entirely. (I was having a lot more fun photographing NASA scientists!)

Here's a shot of the umiaq race about to begin on the Middle Lagoon. This shot is a total failure! I stopped to take pictures only because there is the huge bit of mist from blowing snow that looked really nice with the sun behind it. Unfortunately the lens I had on the camera suffers greatly from flaring under that particular circumstance, plus there was a truck parked where it just hosed the picture. So the image that did work was from off the side and didn't at all capture what I wanted.

This is taken looking pretty much south, from the Browerville side of the lagoon. (Just out of the image on the right side, across the lagoon, is where the next image was shot. All those buildings over there are Ipalook Elementary School.)
This next shot is from the Barrow side looking almost west. That is Geoff Carrol, who has the only dog team in Barrow, giving people a free ride. From up the bank aways he is going just down across the plowed road, and then back up. Note that this is not a racing team. He is an ADF&G biologist, and actually uses these dogs for work I think.

Didn't care. Hadn't seen them before and they were still great photos of the event and people there.
