We've had a bit of strange high cloudiness here in SE lately, which alerted me to the forest fire situations around Anchorage and Fairbanks. Any reports to share from up there?

While it's made for some nice sunrises and sunsets, it overall sucks. Everything smells like a campfire and the haziness and smell make it feel hotter than it already is. We need some rain.

It has been super smoky in the Goldstream Valley, which is below the Shovel Creek fire Northwest of Fairbanks, and there's ash blowing all over. Everything in my house smells like campfire. A friend that lives across the road from me said that burnt black spruce needles were blowing onto his property. I spent the night in town last Thursday night and there was ash on my windshield when I left for work in the morning.

We got some rain overnight, which helped some, but not before they evacuated two subdivisions up on Murphy Dome the night before.

Smoky all over the KP for over a week. Got a nice offshore breeze around Kachemak Bay yesterday (sky was actually blue overhead but a lot of smoke offshore), but the forecast includes a dense smoke advisory through mid week again. Tinder dry too. I have neighbors who find every excuse to set off fireworks. I hope they aren't stupid.

.

The fireworks stands in Houston have been shut down, so unless people have leftovers, there shouldn't be nearly as many fireworks going off this year. I'm not sure where else in the state you can buy fireworks.

Thanks everyone. It's been hot and dry down here too, with more to come over the next several days.

Not as bad as a week ago, but with the idiots building bonfires out in Big Lake, we'll see what happens.

We've been having hazy skies here in the Yukon/Kuskokwim Delta. It's supposed to get warm this weekend and into next week. 80's is crazy for south west Alaska!
