Nome feels much like any other small town in America. It's right on the Bering Sea coast with a quaint wild-west like town center with a few restaurants, bars, and stores. Some people live a subsistence lifestyle as grocery prices are high. Nome has a rich Inupiat culture and is the last stop on the Iditarod Sled Dog race trail.

I couldn’t imagine living there in the winter but the summers are nice with many places to explore as a visitor. In addition to the list on this site there is also the Last Train to Nowhere that is interesting particularly if you learn a little about the history of it.
