Any recommendations on who to use, least expensive?

It’s been 4 years but we used Alaska marine line or Alaska logistics. $2800 from Seattle to Dillingham. Price was same to anchorage and it was same price from Anchorage to Dillingham.

I don’t know why you wouldn’t just fly down and drive it up. Seems to me that it would cost less. Unless you don’t have the time.

That was a Subaru Outback. We called last year to get quote on shipping a suburban out and it was $4700. 19’ was the price jump point.

It's a time thing, I won't have time to go south till this spring or summer.

Are you saving that much money? That’s something one has to consider. Whether or not the savings are really worth it.

And, I’m not sure if all the barge companies run year round.

Most people I know who have shipped a car to Alaska have had a lot of damage done to their vehicles. I would drive or take the ferry.

It'd probably be much cheaper and more reliable to find some retired or college kid relative or friend who had a good driving record and likes an adventure, and pay for them to drive it up here then fly home.

If we drive it up, it won't be till spring, when we drove up the Alaskan Highway in late Oct 2014 the rocks coming off the tires of the big rigs driving by were like bullets, they destroyed the Uhaul truck windshield and you could see where they were hitting the side of the Uhaul, so driving isn't an option for the winter. I can get by without it till then. Looks like the cheapest is 2000 and I don't want to pay that if I don't have to.

$2k? With who? That’s pretty darn affordable. Like might be worth it affordable. Calculate your fuel, wear and tear, and time and see what it is worth.


Don’t forget you can pack it full of other stuff which can make the $2k ok. I wouldn’t ship a vehicle empty. But now that we live on the road, I wouldn’t ship a vehicle up here. Boat? Possibly. Probably not a car, unless it was brand new.

Driving the Alcan in winter is fun! Cold, but fun! I've done five winter trips up and down and you just slow down when a semi is approaching. No RV's in the way either.
