I'm in Louisville, Kentucky but am from Colorado and California, etc. (Air Force Brainiac, NOT brat), and am thinking of moving to Alaska after I complete my Masters degree in Social Work. It seems like it would b a great adventure to me, I've worked as a volunteer nurse in Africa, and am always curious and interested in cultural and social diversity. I just read a thread on the pros of Alaska, and it didn't sound very positive. It sounds sad to think of Alaska as being such a bumer, (cold, sure...is that a surprise?, not trendy...sounds great!) that ceratinly isn't my hope or perception. So anyone out there that thinks there are positive aspects to Alaska for a mature adult, let me know, I'm looking at a job in Nome!! A smaller frontier town, why go to Alaska and not learn what it's really like! I looked at some of the winter pictures on-line in the winter, and Nome sure looks tiny. The other picture showed it green and beautiful. How are the people in Nome? I've always thought that it was the company you keep that affects your attitude. Nome has an incentive for a Social Worker right now to get part of my student loans paid off with a two year commitment and I've always wanted to come to Alaska. I'll keep looking at all of Alaska and hope something works out so that I can finally be there!
