That's a great video that explains the global supply chain issues in a pretty simple way. Thank you for sharing it - I enjoyed watching it.

I had the privilege of being trained and certified in Lean Six Sigma by Toyota when I worked for GE, and am eternally grateful for it. It has helped me in every job I've had since then.

I booked a SUV for our Alaska trip in July for 10 days out of Anchorage. It was about $1,600, which I found absurd. I checked the next week and the price rose to over $3,000 for the same dates. I checked again a few days later and it was completely sold out.

I recently checked and there is some inventory, but the prices are $3,500-4,500 for a mid-size SUV. I feel fortunate to have reserved when I did and while overpriced, I feel fortunate to have reserved this for my upcoming vacation.

You guys really need to pass some consumer protections from price gouging, supply chain issues aside.

There are price gouging laws in times of natural disasters. This is just the free market at work. Most every tourism related businesses in Alaska raises their prices in the summer during tourist season. That’s the time of year they make their money.

I'm all for supporting local businesses, in the time of a pandemic. I also understand that the Alaska tourism season is very short and there's seasonality to pricing. That is to be expected. I'm commenting on the fact that it is 5-10x what it otherwise would've been. I realize this isn't unique to Alaska, but it should be something that the government cracks down on.

It's not just an Alaskan problem... try finding a rental car in Hawaii or Las Vegas right now and you'll find the same issue.
Supply & Demand...

We don’t need more government intervention.
