you're right, the first year one's new to a place IS always the toughest. also, i meant "hardest"; moving up here was actually a great time. we made it into a mini-vacation. we are so ready to move into our apartment, tho...the hotel & bar/restaurant food has us hankering for a casserole or something, haha.

yep, we arrived late evening March 9. so far, it's been such a wonderful experience. everyone we've met is so nice and welcoming...the beauty has us dumbfounded! with this messageboard community's help, we found a great place on sit news just a few days after we got here. not a bad price or local, either. thanks for that, by the by!

You will enjoy the town and can live very well on 55K, you may need to cut out on the "Starbucks" type of coffee (just kidding), but it is a very nice town.

In August it may be a bit tough on the rental market, but you can contact the local newspaper and put an ad in stating that you are looking for a rental. I did that for my daughter when she go transferred to Sitka and go a lot of calls and she got a very nice place.

Basically, you will either love the place in the first few days or really hate it because of the light rain verses few sunny days. But it does grow on you too and the people are very friendly for the most part... there are Trolls there just like anyplace else though...
