Suzanne Downing lives in Florida, that's all I got to say about her website.

Either way I'm surprised LKSD (the region's school district) didn't swap her out of that position themselves some time ago, because even if every accusation is unfounded, things aren't going to operate when the relationship between the school admin and the local community has broken down that much.

I hate to say it, but school districts are not sending the creme de le creme of admins to bush and rural "spoke" villages in some cases, and you do get some admins out there who would not be tolerated by a school in, say, Fairbanks, either because of lacking social skills or because of actual incompetence, negligence or malfeasance.

It doesn't sound like all or even most of the teachers left the village, but that they're going to distance ed temporarily while understaffed and chaotic. Most rural Alaska schools nowadays are already minimally staffed and it only takes losing a few personnel before you don't have enough people to run a full schedule, even in a well-run campus where everyone is working together, which it does not sound like this is.

I don't think I'd characterize this as Native vs. non-Native, more local vs. outsider.

Sounds like what you said is close to the truth:

I'm curious though, "She loves to humiliate Native staff,” according to the complaint. Her last name is Lightfoot, which to me, suggests she is also native. Maybe not Alaska native and maybe, that's part of the problem.

Lightfoot is an Anglo-Saxon name.

There was some sort of rumor that Gordon Lightfoot was Native, which is probably where the association comes from, but he wasn't.

So I don't hate this show; the supporting cast carries it, imo, especially Grace Dove.

For anyone who's interested, the ceremony at the end (and the language in the subtitles) was Tlingit.

With a couple local Juneau actors in the ceremony we recognized.

I doubt there will be another season. They seemed to wrap things up fairly well in the last episode.
