Anyone live in or close to Houston, AK? If so, is there much of a problem with mosquitoes around there. When I lived up in Nome we had a breeze off the Bering Sea so not much of a problem until you got more inland. We are looking at possibly buying property on Cheri Lake in Houston so any information would be appreciated on mosquitoes as well as any other helpful information about the area.

There are no mosquitoes in the Houston area, since the big fire burned out all the trees the other year, there is a constant wind going through there keeping all insects down. It would be not a problem!

There are more mosquitoes here in Charlotte, NC than there were in the valley a few weeks ago.

Mosquitoes?? There are no mosquites in the great state of Alaska.
But seriously, anytime there are stagnant water, there will be mosquitos. Next to the lake, huh? Bring some flying critter insurance anyway. Deets work very well.
I've passed thru and camped in Houston a number of times and I've had no bites. But, then, some of the camp managers said when asked, "they are not bad this time of year".
Am I to read, there are mosquites?

We had a 200,000 acre fire here by Nenana and smoke covered what would be the area of most mid sized states. As soon as the smoke cleared and we got a few days of rain, the mosquitoes were back as if nothing happened.

My dad lives in Wasilla which is only a few miles from Houston, AK and they have mosquito's, not as bad as up North here, but if the air is still, they will be really a "pain". The fire in Big Lake/Houston area was about five years ago and any effect it had on the bugs, is long lost.

Bright side is where I live, in the calm evenings, the mosquito's will drive you indoors, a few years ago I bought a "Mosquito Magnet" and after about three weeks of constantly dumping a bag the size of a quart jar packed with mosquitoes, they dropped off to almost nothing. So even in Houston there is hope!

Nope. I haven't seen any vermin since a week ago last Sunday when they were hanging out in the parking lot of Palin's church. As you know, not seeing them doesn't mean they aren't around. Vermin can be very skilled at avoiding detection.
