I am looking to relocate next summer to Anchorage and have read a ton on these boards. Thank you all for your input.

I have looked into the AMHS for shipping our vehicle and ABF U-Pack pods as well. Are there any other companies I should look at for shipping cargo and/or vehicles? I obviously am looking for the cheapest way possible.

Cheapest way to ship a vehicle. Sell yours down states and buy one up here. Or drive it up the Alcan.

(Getting monotonous answering the same questions, could have looked in the other post here.)

Thanks for your frustration with my question, I have looked through hundreds of posts, I've searched and haven't found much as far as specific companies and people's experiences with them (prices, reliability etc).

I'm not going to sell my vehicle just to go through the hassle of buying a new one up there, I am very happy with my vehicle and want to either pay to ship it or drive it up.

I have seen people talk about ABF but surely there are other shipping companies that might be cheaper to pack up an apartment right?

Sorry if my questions are repetitive, if no one responds because there aren't any other options that's fine.

You can drive up this route:

from: Columbus OH to: Anchorage, AK - Google Maps

And maybe you and Saucysophia can drive up together!

So yeah, I'm moving. I've decided Alaska is the place for me.

I've used ABF's relo cubes to move a house from MA to NC. The most important thing about the cubes is that there is somewhere where they can be unloaded, like a driveway. The other important factor is making sure that they show up to pick the cubes up after they're unloaded. ABF didn't pick ours up for a week.

Me/husband are considering coming up to Alaska on the ferry. You can DRIVE your vehicle onto the boat, and bring it with you that way if you'd like. That's an option......

Thanks, I don't know how that "how to move to alaska" thread didn't come up on my search. Probably cause there's not much text in the thread I guess. Appreciate the links.

The more I've been researching, the more I am really looking at purchasing a truck and enclosed trailer to make the trip up to Anchorage.

Anyone have any info on what type of truck I'm going to need for the task? I've pretty much concluded that I'm going to need a gooseneck trailer and most likely a 3/4 ton truck.

I'm assuming the following towing load:

4000lbs - Approximate weight of a 28' Enclosed Trailer
4400lbs - 2001 Acura MDX inside trailer
2000lbs - Furnishings from 1 BR apartment (this is an approx, no clue how much it's really going to weigh).

Anyone have any experience towing 10k+ loads, I'm new to towing loads this large and any help on things I'd need to consider would be helpful, thanks.
