Well, my hubby and I are in the process of relocating to Fairbanks. He'll be there in a few days. I have to wait for the packers. Anywho, I have plenty of gear for our area in xtreme weather. We are avid adventurers and outdoors people and have invested heavily in excellent gear throughout the years and currently, I'm testing my new 4+ season expedition tent.
Any suggestions on gear? What type/brands seem to do the best? The type that will allow hiking, packing, skiing, mountain climbing, etc.... in the xtreme weather conditions. No, I'm not talking about, "Hey! It's -60 degrees, how about a nice packing trip this weekend." I'm sensible and recognize aclimation.
I already own a 66 North Parka and hubby an REI xtreme weather jacket (which he's had for years) but these aren't appropriate for Alaskan weather below -15 or for strapping on an ice-pick or pack. I'm looking at The North Face and and Arc'teryx jacket that seems to get good reviews. I'd like some input.

Since The North Face was bought at the turn of the this century by the VF Corporation the quality of their products has diminished significantly. I would not consider them any better than the Columbia Sportswear Company today.

As you mentioned, Arc'teryx makes good quality clothing and equipment. Other good quality manufacturers of outdoor clothing and equipment include:
And of course there is always Cabela's, but it is a mixed bag of both good and poor quality products, so you take your chances with them.
