Not much gun control in Alaska. For example, except for schools and other designated areas in Alaska, one can carry concealed (or not concealed). A permit is not required, although one can attend a class and get a permit if one wants to.

That could change in Anchorage if Paul Honeman becomes mayor. He announced yesterday on the Eddie Burke show while being interviewed that he would make Concealed Carry Permits mandatory.

Someone should remind him of Article I, Section 19 of the Alaska State Constitution.

Default Fairbanks more Fun?

We would like to move to an area that has both. We have heard from a few friends (born and raised in Alaska) that Fairbanks is more fun than Anchorage. Anyone have any ideas or tips please let me know or of any other cities. Thanks!![/quote]

If you want drive hundreds of miles then yes Fairbanks may be more fun, but Anchorage is a little closer to Seward, Homer, Kenai Peninsula, where all the accessible fishing and hunting is. Fairbanks is beautiful in the summer and more Alaskan-like, Anchorage is just another city (with lots of things to do and see for city-dwellers). But unless you are into dog mushing you'll spend most of your time indoors or trying to keep your car warm and running in Fairbanks in the winter. Both are wonderful cities my wife and I moved to Fairbanks (North Pole) from Anchorage and had two children there, but found ourselves driving 350 miles back to Anchorage every other weekend, so we finally just moved back to Anchorage. Like I said the summers there were beautiful, but the winters were brutal.

I am certain that Wayne Anthony Ross will slapped him of the side of the head and spin him around with a lawsuit.

Dear God, DO NOT MOVE TO FAIRBANKS! Sometimes when I get bored, I ponder what the suicide rate is for Fairbanks, it's got to be pretty high. I don't know how people do it. If you are looking to move to Alaska - move to Anchorage and travel to the other places if you like. Why not travel to both first and see what you think for yourself. If you are any type of a city person - Anchorage is really the only option.

Hey, I haven't thought about killing myself all week.....

Maybe a few other's though

Geeze, where in the world did you get that thought?

There are some people that get depressed from the darkness, but some folks get depressed from having birthdays too.... Not everyone is ready to jump off tall buildings, not that there are very many of them anyway....

I have lived in both Fairbanks and Anchorage and love both. My guess is that if you are from Tennessee and currently living in Chicago, want both city and outdoor activities, that Anchorage is by far the best choice for you. Milder weather, more city amenities, more job opportunities, etc., etc.
