As a PA native, I must admit, outside of the 10-14 days of -20+(with many -30F days included), Mat-Su winters have been pretty tame. I thought for sure that we would have more snow(Pittsburgh has had just as much).

I guess all of you veteran posters were correct. Winters here, at least in this area, aren't too bad. Quite frankly, heavy snowfalls are far more frequent in western PA. That may be due to the lake-effect off of Erie. I don't know. But I recall far bigger "blizzards" there than here.

But, this is my first winter season here. I'm probably wrong, my wife tells me that all the time.

It's basically just like anywhere else Satch. Some winters are more mild and some are severe. I remember one year when it didn't snow until December. Summers are the same; last year's summer was chilly and rainy and then some are beautiful. Must be global warming as the inventor of the Internet so says LOL. As far as your wife telling you that you're wrong all the time....my husband always refers to that old joke: "When I married Mrs. Right I didn't know her first name was Always."

Will do. The plan is the last week of April or first week of May...

That's one of the reasons we moved to this area, much milder winters and cooler summers that back in N MI.

December and March are the months we usually get most of our snow in south central Alaska. Wait for it.

As far as winters go, this winter has been slightly colder than normal (the two weeks of temperatures below -20°F only happens once a decade. Be prepared for that kind of cold again during the winter of 2018-2019. ) and slightly less snow than normal. Although everything else has been spot on. The first snowfall was mid-October, and the Chinook Winds hit in January.

I am still excepting a few more feet of snow by April, but break-up should be around May 1st. I'm just hoping this summer will be better than last summer.

I remember that winter well. The first snowfall was December 10th, and the last snowfall was February 5th. I mowed my lawn that December. Not because it needed it, just because I could. It was the only time I could go on-line and accurately claim that Anchorage, Kentucky, had a longer winter with more snow than Anchorage, Alaska.
