Warptman's photos have my vote too, all the way to one of my favorite places; the Gulkana Glacier and right up under the Rainbow Mountains.

The first picture on page 2 (the first from the Richardson Highway) shows that long stretch of road heading south. The "hill" on the right side is the base of Donnelly Dome (I took a nekkid pic on top of that many years ago).
On the left side (the flat area) is an area now known as Donnelly Assault Strip (all part of Ft. Greeley). In my day, that area was 3 dropzones, Fox/Donnelly/Bear.
About 10 years ago I was setting up a far marker for Donnelly Drop Zone, just a few hundred yards to the left of that highway, and I heard a crunching noise in the snow behind me. While distracted by a bad battery, a few Caribou had managed to sneak up on me. I turned around and there were several of the animals standing within 20' of me, watching me poke around in the snow.

Anywhere out on the Dalton Highway crossing through the Brooks range - particularly up around Coldfoot - when it's 50 below. Something about the lonely isolation punctuated by an occasional semi just seems so quintessentialy Alaska! And that smell of Diesel exhaust in the cold morning air...it smells like...I can hear Wagner now!!!

I'd love to live in Ketchikan. It reminds me a lot of the part of New England where I spent my childhood.

I love going though Denali National Park, even though I live pretty close to it, still I put in for the drawing for going in every fall. Mt. McKinley has always been a strong pull for me.

McKinley view from Alaska Airlines flight coming back from the North Slope.

Mt. McKinley at -40 at the Nenana airport.

Favorite sign on the way back to Wonder Lake, the park rangers put nails in it to stop the bears from scratching their backs on it.

Mt. McKinley from my cabin overlooking the lake.

Mt. McKinley as seen coming over the pass...

Grizzly Bear headed to late hibernation in Denali Park...

I forgot to add Sadie Cove across the inlet from Homer. Anyone else been there? Really nice.

Good god it's too gorgeous there. Starlite, that view of Mt. McKinley....it's just so big! And the aerial view of the lake you live on, you are absolutely isolated, no one else around. I can't believe that!

I live in the little southeast island paradise town of Wrangell. My favorite places are all around me but I spent lots of time up the Stikine river.
