It's due west of Skellefteå, which is a ways north of Stockholm on the eastern coastline. It's probably some nice high country being near the Norway border. Maybe even mountainous. Not sure if the rail system goes through there...but it'll be a nice drive. Very similar to the Kenai Peninsula I'd think. I have not yet made a trip along the western side of Sweden.

You can fly into Vilhelmina...have to take the bus to get to nearest rail system....We loved taking the rail through Norway and Sweden....Abesko is much like Alaska wish we had time to camp there. If you have time and are going to take the train let me know and can give you some tips!!

Wow - even Vilhelmina makes it to CD!

Both trains and flights go there, plus you can take the/a car there (the E45 goes through the town).

And once again, may I whine a little about the schools in my area of the country - the rest of the country always/usually starts the summer break (or graduate) in late May, but in Jönköping's county, we never get off until sometime in the middle of June. Hmpf...

Oh, Warptman, consider yourself lucky - you travel more than most people I know!

I love to travel! Do you need a international drivers license to drive in Sweden?

No, your American driver's licens is valid for up to a year in Sweden (if you move here to work or study), so you won't have any trouble at all with that.
Oh, just know how jealous I am off you. Ok, maybe not of Vilhelmina (though I've never been there and it sure would be fun to visit too) but you live all the way "over there", in Bethel, and yet still you manage to travel more than I do!
Lucky morrhår...

There's thought of driving to Whitehorse and taking Condor over, but that's just a thought!
