Naturesdreams and Akravenlady, although I envy both of your hiking plans in some seriously beautiful country remember in Alaska there is NO WOODTICKS. Seriously, of all the things I love the most of what Alaska has, what it does not have ie woodticks is my favorite! True that we have bears, cranky moose ect and other things to be causious about but the absence of woodticks wins hands down for Alaska for this outdoor gal!

Agreed!

I've had lyme disease...and it's not something I ever want to get again. It stinks to always have to worry about ticks when out in the woods.

I do hate ticks... just something you learn to check for after getting back from a hike... (used to be a great past time when I was in a relationship LOL ) I did love that when I hiked in the forest on Admiralty... no ticks and such a soft cushion of moss... ahhh... yes memories..

I have to do for now what I gotta do... but my dreams of Alaska must wait until I have my plans setup, job secured and my home sold here and a new property there... I would love to do it immediately but just not the smart thing to do... just like wearing an IPOD head set while in the wilds of Alaska... just not a smart thing to do LOL

I do want to meet you Frezengirl once I get back to Alaska... you do have a great mind and think alot like me...

I love Lake Superior... I once hiked in the porcupines there and back packed in to a cabin on Superior... many waterfalls there and it was actually May and patches of snow still on the ground... fall is the most beautiful.. mother nature's paint pallet...

For sure, having no ticks was one of the things I enjoyed about hiking in Alaska. I got to enjoy that for 7 years. Now I look back at that time in my life and wish I'd have hiked a whole lot more! But I had to do everything alone most of the time so I didn't go as much as I'd have liked.

I've gone back 4 times since moving away. I've good friends in Wasilla so I stay with them. I usually go up in May or June but this year I am combining a busness trip with pleasure so I can write off my trip. I'm a self-employeed artist, I'm coming up to do a show in Anchorage.

I went to the Porkypines many many years ago. But at that time, we weren't into hiking and all we did was drive around and leave. I know I shulod prolly check it out now that I am living back here and it's geographically not that far from me. I tend to go in a northerly direction though if I'm doing a road trip and usually end up on the north shore of Superior.

You have a good day too.

Maybe they're scouting you for a slot as an American Idol judge?

Think we can have Richard Branson establish Virgin Mobile sprint network in the Alaska marketplace? The technical experts can handle productive project.
