I would agree with you about the name thing IF my daughter were still little! :P She's 23, married with 2 kids going on a 3rd! She's got a great / warped sense of humor! ((All 7 of my kids are very sarcastic & fun loving!))
I love the name Toby. Nice, short, & to the point! Love the name Tucker too...I too had a dog with that name. Not too common. And, as you said, it's cute!
We did have a dog (rescue) named Adam. Cute for a Sheltie.
Alcoholic dog names...better not tell my daughter.

Ok 23 is a bit old so its not as "cute". Its still funny though. I also call the cat lots of names other than Tucker like Tuggy or Mr. Tugginsworth. I too have a very warpted sense of humor. Call your dog whatever makes you happy though, Im just adding my two cents.

My mixed Alaskan Husky female is named Blizzard, and my mixed Mastiff male is called Buddy. Not very original, I admit, but I have this thing about the letter "B". All their toys begin with the letter "B" as well; Ball, bone, burger, and badger (stuffed of course).

Maybe I will try the letter "Q" with the next pet. Although it will be more difficult to find toys.

Blizzard (5 years) and Buddy (4 months) playing.

We too have an assortment of names, their registered names are much longer and have our kennel's name in them but we call them Willow (nature name), Nala (my daughter loves the Lion King), Myshka (a Russian name my huuby likes), Keira (a Celtic name I like) and the mutt Boomer (sort of short from Bommerang - he just kept coming back...lol).
Crazy I know, but we love all of our fur babies, couldn't imagine life with our our dogs. Oh and the Cat...Dixie Belle (we're Southerners after all)

I thought about getting a cat to handle the mice and shrews, but I didn't know how to introduce one safely with two dogs that have no love for cats. So I ended up training Buddy to kill mice as an alternative. For every dead mouse or shrew Buddy brings me, I give him a pig's ear treat with lots of praise and encouragement. Its a nice arrangement, but I have to clean up the garage more often than I would like. Buddy is my Mastiff Mouse Masher!

Our cat is an inside only cat, so I guess she'd be good for keeping any critters out of the house.

Do you find that the dog gets an upset tummy after getting a shrew? I heard that happens up here. Just curious.

He doesn't eat them. He just mashes them with his front paws, sniffs them, rolls on them, then brings me the mangled mouse/shrew, or if I'm not there he will leave it on or next to my computer chair.

All the mice/shrews are the result of me keeping my household garbage in the garage for a month or two before I take it to the dump. I would rather contend with mice in my trash than bears or wolves. Now that Spring is here, the mice/shrews are much less of a problem.
