I'm visiting in June with a ladies tour group and was trying to plan my souvenier budget. we're starting in Anchorage, and visiting Seward, Kenai Fjords Natl Park, Girdwood, Whittier, Taking the ferry to Valdez, Chitina, McCarthy, Kennicott Lodge, Talkeetna and Denali.

My favorite souvenirs are things I found when I was there. And they are free. For example, I have a couple hand made gill net floats from my old home town on the Innoko and an old rusty ax head from the time I hiked into Kanatak. Those are the kinds of things I look for as souvenirs.

I'd have to agree with Marty... my best souvenirs were things I found in my travels. Like the palm-sized chunk of agate I found by the side of a river. Take a camera and forget about the tchotchkes! A scrapbook of photos, ticket stubs, maps and found treasures makes for better memories... even if you aren't the crafty sort
If you do decide to buy any souvenirs, make sure they either have a Made in Alaska (bear and cub) or Authentic Native Handicraft (silver hand) logo... otherwise, you're just buying cheapo crap.

True - not every real artisan is part of the tag program, and that certainly doesn't make their stuff junk. It's just really hard for a tourist to know who to trust and who's ripping them off when they're only in town for a few hours. Maybe that's why I avoid tchotckes

Take lot's of pictures. Those will be your best souvenieres. I can't spell souvaneirs but you will find many unique rocks darn near anywhere you go. You could also stop in Sterling and buy a T-Shirt!
