I don't know how true it is but have been told that SSD payment is higher in AK due to cost of living. Hopefully you have applied for SSI (social security income) on top of SSD. you have to have less than $3000 in assets that does not count a home or 1 vehicle to receive it.
Do you think you can handle snow and ice conditions???

i think i can handle the cold it snows here most years at least 2,3 times a year and dont seem to have any more problems than normal, the main problem would be housing and starting over because i wuold have to sell everything because i would have to fly.

Do have housing...even temporary lined up...tag sales you can replace most anything you need.

Depending on where in Alaska you plan to move, the cold weather is a lot different than most places in the lower-48. For example, temperatures of -60 are very possible in Fairbanks and vicinity. This is bone-hurting cold. No kidding! Fairbanks and North pole are much like spread-out neighborhoods and businesses, so one has to drive quite a lot from place to place just to buy groceries and other stuff. Anchorage is different than Fairbanks in that it's more of a city, and perhaps easier for you to live. You still have to contend with the long dark hours of winter, which is nothing like the short nights in the lower-48. In here you go to work in the dark, and come home in the dark.

During the summer it's the opposite of winter. We have daylight late into the night, and can get quite hot.

You might like the Kenai...not sure about the fishing there though. It seems awfully crowded. Have you thought about Juneau?
